Welcome to a special feature on our blog! Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Jamie Bright, the creative mind behind the upcoming children’s book series, Miles of Adventure. Jamie’s journey from a globetrotting digital nomad to a children’s book author is as inspiring as it is intriguing. Let’s dive into her story.

Inspiration for Miles of Adventure

The inspiration for Miles of Adventure came from Jamie’s own nomadic lifestyle and her desire to create educational content for her young son.

“Living in different parts of the world exposed me to various cultures, languages, and environments. I wanted to capture that sense of wonder and discovery in a way that children could relate to and learn from,” Jamie explains.

The series is rooted in Montessori principles, emphasizing hands-on learning, cultural diversity, and environmental care. Each book takes young readers on a journey to a new destination, starting with the sun-soaked beaches of Barbados.

The Journey of Creating the First Book

Creating the first book in the series, Caribbean Sun & Fun in Barbados, was a labor of love. Jamie first landed in Barbados at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and lived there for a year and a half. That’s where she started dating her partner, and they created Miles. They fell in love with the island and its wonderful community.

“Barbados became a second home to us. From the Brighton Farmers Market on Saturday mornings to scuba diving and exploring shipwrecks, catamaran rides, swimming with turtles, and late nights with rum on the beaches with friends—it was magical. Even fresh coconut water from roadside stands and the slow pace of life left a lasting impression on us.”

Although Miles was eventually born in France, they returned to Barbados when he was two months old.

“We felt so relaxed and at home there. Rocking our son to sleep with the sound of the waves outside our door, walking him up and down the beach when he was unsettled—it was the perfect environment. He had the most amazing Bajan nanny named Kara who loved and protected him. We were sure his first words would be Bajan!”

Jamie often wrote late at night after her son went to bed, hoping he wouldn’t wake up while she was in a good writing groove. The love for Barbados and the special memories they made there made it clear that this story had to be the first in the series.

“The days we spent exploring the island inspired many of the book’s scenes. From playing on the beach to exploring the underwater world, I wanted to share the magic of this island with young readers.”

Life in New Zealand

Jamie and her family now live in the countryside north of Auckland, New Zealand. Their home is surrounded by green hills, gardens, and the serenity of nature. They continue to practice Montessori principles at home, inspired by their son’s early education.

“Our son attends a Montessori early education school here in New Zealand, and we love incorporating those principles into our daily life. It’s about encouraging independence, curiosity, and a love for learning. These values are at the heart of the Miles of Adventure series.”

Looking Ahead

As Jamie prepares for the official launch of Miles of Adventure: Caribbean Sun & Fun in Barbados at the end of October, she’s excited about the future books in the series. Each new adventure will introduce children to different cultures and environments, fostering a love for learning and exploration.

“I hope these books inspire young readers to be curious, compassionate, and environmentally conscious. There’s so much beauty in the world, and I want to share that with them.”
